Reti Opening

1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 is the classic Reti Opening.

1.Nf3 is perhaps the best first move for White:

  • White moves Nf3 early in most of its openings.
  • Does not reveal White’a intentions. Consequently White can usually decide whether to proceed with the Reti, Queen’s Gambit, English, traditional King Pawn, or King’s Indian Attack, or Zukertort, no matter what Black’s first move is.

For an excellent discourse see Understanding the Reti A12.
